Top 40 of 2016 so far at Dave’s Records: why is it forty?

I decided with us midway through the summer and the festival season to backtrack on the musical year here at Dave’s. It occurred to me that Top 40 is often the standard list for records. Why? I did extensive research on the internets but could find no conclusive reason for the standard of a list stopping at 40 so I leave it to you to give me your reason for this.  I love a good story like this for example…Wolfman Jack had 15 toes on each foot and when he counted it down his 40 digits(10 fingers/30 toes) was his way of keeping track. Let your imagination run wild. So here is our TOP 40 for 2016 so far in no particular order….

If I went to forty four I might add a little Residents…
