Road Trip Radio Roulette

There is a certain beauty to letting the universe choose the connection between things. Too often these days we control all aspects of our daily input. I choose what to listen to 9 hours a day so I know. I’ve always liked the long road trip and allowing the radio to add the random connection. There is no better feeling than twirling the dial(really the seek button) like a safecracker until a gem is found. Thus the above video of Dorothy Ellis’ “Drill,Daddy,Drill.” Sam and I were hauling a truckload of stuff out to Boston for my daughter Caitlin. It happenned to be Father’s Day and as Sam was sleeping, I wandered across a DJ playing a Father’s Day themed playlist. Hadn’t heard this in a long time and will now probably associate it with this trip as well as th Rays “Daddy Cool”. Karma…no “Instant Karma” another song we heard twice that hit us like a “Dead Skunk in the Middle of the Road”- still another song we lumbered across on our twenty hours of driving. The beauty is that the association will last and for whatever reason my mind will always be brought back to driving across the Jersey state line as “Jungleland” finished up playing. A coincidence that will be embedded in my neurons so that I will always remember the Father’s Day weekend when Clarence Clemmons passed on. Random coincidence is like that marvelous random roulette wheel that sometime comes up 00 when you least expect it. Jackpot! Unless you bet on 22, then it’s stinkin’ to high, high heaven.
